Hikone Castle Festival Parade(Canceled in 2020)

This parade is Hikone Castle Festival's main event. Like an old, colorful picture scroll come to life, a total of nearly 1,000 people will march for two hours, including rows of children dressed as castle lords and in period clothing, traditional Hikone firefighters, people wearing traditional bamboo hats, people dressed as the "red devil soldiers" of the Ii samurai family, and more!
  • Scene 1

    The Ii "red devil soldiers, " marching past as warriors clad in red armor.

  • Scene 2

    A demonstration of matchlock rifles used during Japan's Sengoku (or Warring States) Period (1467-1603) will be held. Please be aware that they make quite a loud noise.

  • Scene 3

    Performances will be given by Hikone's firefighters. Local fire brigades like this were utilized during the Edo period (1603-1868).

  • Scene 4

    Ladies wearing traditional straw hats. Hats like these were typically worn by women beginning in the Heian Period (794-1185)

  • Scene 5

    Hikone's samurai cat mascot, "Hikonyan" will of course make an appearance!

  • Scene 6

    Hikone elementary school students will also participate, making up a row of "child castle lords." Each elementary school will also give a musical performance during the events.
