Saifuku-ji Temple

Saifuku-ji Temple's primary object of worship is its 5.5 meter statue of the bodhisattva Jizo, also known as "Hikone's Great Buddha," constructed during the Edo Period (1603-1868) and a part of the legacy of Hikone Domain. The body of the statue houses several more donated small images of Jizo, made based upon a dream of the 11th Lord of Hikone, Naonaka Ii. Because these Jizo images are enshrined as objects to bring about safe childbirth, Saifuku-ji Temple is frequently visited by those praying for fertility and safe childbirth.
